Twenty people died Saturday afternoon in a traffic accident between two vehicles in Schoharie County, near Albany, the capital of New York State, police said Sunday.



According to local media, one of the vehicles that participated in the accident - a utility limousine - rushed down a hill, ramming pedestrians on the outskirts of a cafe, before crashing into the parking lot of that location.



The accident between both vehicles, which took place on Saturday afternoon, shortly before 2:00 pm (1800 GMT), is one of the worst ever recorded in this small town in a rural area located about 250 kilometers north of New York.



Police reported that the two vehicles collided at an intersection, without giving further details. Authorities said they will hold a press conference on Sunday.
